Beachside Cliff House
Montauk, NY
Perched on a hillside above the open ocean, this existing house was originally conceived as a contemporary statement on a unique site. The new homeowner came to us with a desire to blend the house and the surrounding landscape as well as update the interiors. Their vision for the home was for a relaxed getaway, focusing on the exterior views as the color story for the interior rooms. SFW worked to underscore the existing architecture, updating interior and exterior finishes and detailing, and a bit of re-programming to enhance the visual elegance throughout the space. A second phase will involve redesigning the sun patio with a new pool, outdoor kitchen, and three season pergolas, as well as the landscaping to enhance exterior views and frame the path around the site.
In partnership with the Eric Firestone Gallery, a striking collection of contemporary art was curated and boldly showcased throughout. Custom furnishings sit alongside exceptionally handcrafted pieces by Finn Juhl, John Pomp, Token, and a statement chandelier by Alain Ellouz Paris.
Multiple living spaces are oriented to allow the views and the art to command attention, while private areas reveal moments of personality: a grown-up bunk room, a decadent bath, and signature Stollar Fearins Welch touches that blend humor with a lively nod to the owner’s tastes.
